Long Bell Door Chimes
We tend to think of doorbells as those convenient buttons guests push to let you know they have come for a visit. The technology is pretty simple. And yet the idea of having a home without a reliable doorbell system is just out of the question. But the advances in technology that have even come to this humble part of our lives also make it possible to use the concept of a doorbell for an even more important job in our homes. That job is home security.
Motion sensors are used to do many jobs around our homes these days. We like them to work with our outdoor lighting so that when someone drives up into our driveway, the lights come on to either help a friend find the porch or to scare off an unwelcome visitor. We can take that same approach to triggering an event and adapt the doorbell alarm system so that if someone were to force themselves through a door or window, a motion sensor will take note and set off a chime that is both louder and longer than your traditional doorbell.
The motion activated chimes accomplish two goals. First, they alarm the intruder. So you will want a set of chimes in the rooms where the breached opening is located. This might call for a set of chimes in each room where there is a window or door that an intruder could possibly enter through. If you can then wire the chimes in with lights, particularly flashing lights that would throw attention right on the opening as the intruder enters, few thieves would be willing to put up with that kind of exposure and they would flee.
The second purpose is to alert you that someone is coming into the house. A good security oriented alarming system is louder and more insistent than the normal doorbell chime. But it also will continue for a significant period of time to assure you are alerted to the problem. To b effective, these chimes must reach you and overcome noises of family life, television or to wake you up from a sound sleep. The chime should be strong enough to let you know action should be taken but not terrifying in its own right.
Of course, many home security systems can be installed as packages to accomplish these goals. You can also work with a contractor to design an alarm system that works to your specifications. The cost might be a bit high depending on how specific you make each alarm to the door or window being watched and how many chime alert systems you plan to put into the house. But the price of security is worth the cost and alerting chimes are one of the most effective security systems in use today.
