Do Not Blame Espresso Machine For Taste Of Brew

As a lot of people are finding, even owning their own machine does not give them the same tasting drink as the one they pick up on their way to work. While there may be some machines on the market that do not work exactly right, chances are there is nothing wrong with the machine. With only a few things that alter the outcome of the finished cup, or shot of coffee, quite possibly operator error is causing the glitch in the taste of the morning brew.

There are essentially three things that contribute to the quality of shots put out by an machine. First of course, is the water. Clean, pure water is typically recommended and if the tap water has a subtle, or not so subtle bad taste, it will be magnified when pushed through grounds in the machine. The second thing is the quality of the grounds being used to make the drink. Most coffee shops use only fresh beans made for coffee while many at home buy their beans in bulk, meaning by the time they are ground up and used, they could be several weeks old.

The third item on the not to do list is the quality of the grinder, usually found on an automatic machine. Bad coffee grind is possibly the number one complaint when people buy an machine and many will opt for a separate grinder to insure the fine grounds needed for good is available.

Making Decision Based On Price

Many people, wanting their own machine for home, base their buying decision on which unit will fit into the budget. While traditional coffee makers may all essentially perform the same function, there is a difference in the quality of an machine, usually seen in the price. The grinder, the pressure handle on manual machines as well as whether it has a milk steamer with which to turn the milk into foam for latte.

In many instances, the buyer does get what they pay for. However, that is not to say that the most expensive machine will produce the best espresso. For the person who truly loves their and wants to be able to make their own whenever the urge strikes, no amount of money will be an object to them having their own machine. Those who only want a few cups a week, except for the convenience, may be better off stopping at the drive-through window on their way to work, unless they want their drink their way, every day.
