The Commercial Hedge Trimmer For Bigger Jobs
When you have many bushes and hedges on your property, it does not make sense to use handheld manual clippers to keep them looking manicured. Instead, a commercial would be the best bet for keeping those hedges and bushes trimmed, particularly if you plan to use the equipment on a regular basis. While some models of hedge trimmers may be good for occasional use, if you are an avid landscaper with plenty of things that need trimming, a commercial model is your best bet.
Why Go Commercial
Beyond frequent use, there are several reasons why you should go for the commercial rather than another model. First, the commercial version will have an engine that is a bit more heavy duty so that it can handle repeated use and as most of them are gas powered, you can take them anywhere. Thicker shrubs, bushes and hedges are easier to cut through with a commercial rather than a lower consumer version that may be powered by electricity or a battery.
Safety features are more plentiful with the commercial version of the trimmer, mainly because it is expected that the heavier duty version will be handling thicker hedges with more frequency. For instance, in a commercial hedge trimmer, you should look for hand guards on the rear and front handles to protect you from the moving blades should you hands start to slip. A locking mechanism is important for the throttle so when it is on, you cannot manipulate the throttle by accident.
Other commercial safety features of note include blade locks, kill switches, anti-vibration characteristics and more. While your trimmer may be idling in between jobs, you want the blades to be able to lock so as to avoid possible injury. In addition, a kill switch is a necessary precautionary measure should you have to stop abruptly. With some insulation and buffering of machine parts, a commercial can have some great anti-vibration qualities to lower the fatigue of your hands and arms as well as the machinery itself.
Getting One for Personal Use
For the most part, a commercial is not marketed to the average homeowner as most yards have smaller bushes and hedges that don't require a lot of maintenance or power to get the manicuring job done. However, if you do require something with a bit more staying power, you can obtain a commercial option but be prepared to pay more money.
